Coahoma Electric and the Power of 12 Enters the Food Fight


Extra Table is the partnership launched in 2009 by well-known restaurateur Robert St. Paul. John making a difference in the lives of Mississippians by fundraising in order to stock food pantries and soup kitchens across the state with new, healthy food.

This month, Extra Table has teamed up with Cooperative Energy, wielding the power of their 12 Member Communities with one mission – getting more FOOD to their and to those hungry in Mississippi. Coahoma Electric Power Association is one of those members.

Cooperative Energy is a not-for-profit, member-owned, locally-led, and community-driven electric power company. Cooperative Energy generates and transmits wholesale electricity to their 11 distribution cooperatives from the Delta to the Coast, serving more than 438,000 Mississippi homes, schools,

farms, and businesses.

Each month, Extra Table purchases nutritious, shelf stable food for nearly 60 food pantry partners throughout the state, and in 2021, Extra Table launched the Everyone Eats program, allowing individual and business partners to work with the feeding organization to provide food for the entire state of Mississippi for one month.

Together, Cooperative Energy and its 11 member-owned cooperatives have pledged to feed the state of Mississippi by covering the cost of food to Extra Table’s state-wide partners for the month of July.

Thanks to their generous donation, Extra Table will be able to purchase food at below wholesale prices and provide Mississippians with meals for the entire month of July by way of distribution through local pantry partners.

“There are 670,000 Mississippians experiencing hunger, so it makes all the sense in the world for us to partner with Extra Table and feed those most hungry in our state,” said Jeff C. Extra Table extends a huge thank you to each of Cooperative Energy’s Member cooperatives – Coahoma Electric Power AssociationCoast Electric Power Association, Delta Electric, Dixie Electric, Magnolia Electric Power, Pearl River Valley Electric, Singing River Electric, Southern Pine Electric, Southwest Electric, Twin County Electric, and Yazoo Valley Electric.

This month, these cooperatives are ultimately feeding a hungry neighbor in your community.
