Howard Rogillio Obituary (1943 – 2022) – Keller, TX

Howard Eugene Rogillio passed away on August 13, 2022, at his home in Keller, Texas at the age of 79. Howard, aka “PawPaw” was a devoted and faithful husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be missed.

Howard was born on August 7, 1943 in Ferriday, Louisiana, to Albert Eugene “Gene”, Jr and Ira Rabb Rogillio. He grew up in Ferriday where he excelled in baseball and basketball. He graduated from Louisiana Tech in 1966 with a BS in Wildlife Management. Howard and Johnnie Ruth were married on June 18, 1966 and moved to Slidell, Louisiana. Howard worked over 40 years with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries in the New Orleans office. He was the District 8 Supervisor of Inland Fisheries. He was a member of the American Fisheries Society as a Certified Fisheries Scientist. Howard worked many hours on the Gulf Sturgeon management plan on the TCC Anadromous Fish Committee. Howard enjoyed his time on the GSMFC Striped Bass Technical Task Force in 2006. Howard has numerous publications on the Striped Bass, Gulf Sturgeon and Catfish.

Howard lived in Slidell and Pearl River, Louisiana for over 45 years. He was a member of Aldersgate UMC. It took Disciple Bible Study classes and attended the Cursillo Spiritual Retreat. Howard was a member of the Rotary Club of the Northshore. After moving to Keller, Texas in 2013, he was a member of Keller UMC then transferred to Whites Chapel UMC. He attended several men’s bible studies. He was a member of the Faithbuilder’s Sunday school class and Classic Adults. He had a deep faith and love of Jesus.

Howard was an avid hunter in his early years. Deer hunting with his son was always a favorite. Howard loved all sporting events and there was always a game on TV. He was so proud of all his children’s and grandchildren’s many athletic teams. He coached several youth soccer and basketball teams in the early 80s. He had a quick wit and was always playing pranks on co-workers and family. He also loved to tinker with tools in his workshop always fixing something. Howard and Johnnie Ruth enjoyed their travels to 49 of the US states including Alaska and Hawaii, and their international travels included several Caribbean cruises, Ireland, and a Riverboat cruise through Austria, Germany and Netherlands.

Howard is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Johnnie Ruth Beasley Rogillio, their two children, Howard Scott Rogillio and Staci Rogillio Ragsdale; daughter-in-law, Shay Murray Rogillio; son-in-law, Raymond “John” Ragsdale; grandchildren, Holt Ragsdale, Harrison Ragsdale, Sarah Rogillio, Claire Rogillio and Maggie Ragsdale.

Howard’s family would like to thank Dr Heidi Jordan, all the nurses at Texas Oncology and Baylor Hospital in Grapevine and the many friends who loved and supported him.
