Holland recognized as ideal place for redevelopment

HOLLAND — Walking through downtown Holland in 2022 is very different than walking through downtown Holland in 2017.

In just five years, the city has completely redeveloped its show-stopping Civic Center; added a block of new dining, shopping and entertainment on Eighth Street; and added a multi-story senior residence where a single-story furniture store once stood.

For some cities, that kind of redevelopment takes decades. For Holland, it’s par for the course.

Early last week, Holland was recognized for those efforts and awarded the Redevelopment Ready Communities Certification from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. The award is given to communities that show transparency, predictability and efficiency in their economic development practices.
