Maharashtra: Tourism directorate arranges special temple and pandal-hopping for senior citizens | Mumbai News

MUMBAI: After several decades for Narayan Gujaran 80-years old Sion native, his lifetime wish to visit all leading Ganesh pandals in Mumbai during the 10-day festivity will come true this year. Narayan came to Mumbai eight years ago after his retirement from his last posting to a central government office in Bangalore. He gets moved when he says it will also mark tribute to his wife who passed away a year ago.
the tourism directorate has arranged special temple and pandal-hopping visits of senior citizens to popular ganesh temples and pandals in major cities such as Mumbai, Pune, Thane and Nagpur. For this their young children or caretakers have to fill up online forms and assist those who have crossed 75 years of age.
“The response to the online form is pouring in. Visitors will be shortlisted based on the criteria in the application,” said a tourism directorate official.
There will be a total of five tours during the 10-day period starting September 1. Those who will be applying will have to show their aadhar cards or proof of being a senior citizen. In Mumbai the tour starting Andheri east railway station bust depot will cover Mumbai cha Peshwa at Vile Parle East, Kherwadicha Raja in Bandra East, Siddhivinayak temple in Prabhadevi, Ganesh Galli pandal in Lalbaug, and GSB Ganpati in Wadala.
The tours starting from Kurla East railway station bus depot will cover Sahyadri Mitra Mandal Ganesh in Tilak Nagar and all other pandals and a temple mentioned above except Mumbaicha Peshwa at Vile Parle. The tour to be operated from Dr Ambedkar garden bust stop in Chembur east will cover Chembur cha Raja in siddhi colony, Sahyadri krida mandal ganesh in Tilak nagar, GSB Ganpati in Wadala, Ganesh Galli in Lalbaug and SIddhivinayak temple in PRabhadevi.
In Thane Samartha Mitra Mandal in Gandhi nagar, Sarvajanik Utsav Mandal in Jaibhawani Nagar, Jan Jagruti MItra Mandal in Kisan Nagar 3, Suryoday MItra Mandal in Kisan Nagar 3, Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal Khewra Circle, and Panshil Sarvadyog Nagar in Singh U the major pandals to be visited. In Pune the visits will cover Tulsi baug Ganpati, Guruji Talim Ganpati, Shrimant Dagadusheth Halwai, Tambdi JOgeshwari ganpati, Shrimant Bhausaheb Rangari Ganpati, Shri Kasba Ganpati, and Kesariwada ganpati. SImilarly in Nagpur, Tekadi Ganesh, Adasa Ganesh temple, Ashtabhuja Ganesh Mandir in Ramtek and Reshimbaug ganpati will be covered.
In Thane, while tourists will be picked up and dropped from/at Ghantali, Majiwada and Waghbil naka on ghodbunder road, in Pune pickups will be made at station bus stand, shivaji nagar bus depot, and swargate bus stand. In pune the drop point will be Shanipur. In Nagpur pick up and drop point will be NMT bus stop, Yashwant stadium in Dhantoli.
