Why prominent Coast family is selling ‘last large parcel’


A prominent Sunshine Coast family is parting with one of Glenview’s largest and oldest properties – selling the impressive land holding for only the second time in almost 100 years.

The 25.8 hectares (63.7 acres) parcel at 34 Dunne Road has been tightly held by the Dunne family for more than four decades.

Former Maroochy Shire councilor Bruce Dunne said his family, long-time Caloundra residents, had purchased the land in 1981 from the Zardani family which had bought the parcel from German settlers in 1925.

“Zardani family patriarch Angelo emigrated from Italy in 1921 at age 20 and soon acquired more than 405 hectares (1000 acres) at Glenview/Palmview,” Mr Dunne said.

“The original parcel had included Mount Sippy where Angelo operated a dairy until the 1950s and had up to 90 Jersey cows, and he also grew bananas and pineapples and milled timber on site.

“This stunning countryside, including the neighboring property (DeZens), supported profitable pineapple farming and is rich agriculture land.

“Dad ran goats for a while and cattle. It’s had its bit of history in farming.”

Over the decades, the Zardani family sold sections of its massive landholding, including the Dunnes’ parcel now for sale.

Mr Dunne said the road was named after his family once access was created to the property.

“Since dad’s passing, the property has been held by the estate,” Mr Dunne, of Yandina Creek, said.

“Dad had a fair land holding on the Coast and it’s just about the last large parcel of land available to go.

“It’s within easy access to the highway and is surrounded on three sides by rural residential.

“This property is zoned rural and offers possibilities with eco-tourism and caravan parks.

“The demand for alternative tourist and camping options for travelers and weekenders is rapidly growing.”

Town Group director Craig Morrison said the auction on September 3 represented a rare opportunity for prospective buyers to secure a significant-sized rural holding in a “sought-after, dress-circle acreage belt”, less than 20 minutes away from southern beaches.

The acreage is in a secluded location with stands of beautiful giant native hardwood trees at the end of the Dunne Road cul de sac with the two-street bitumen frontages including entry from Isambert Road.

“My extended family have recently moved down from a large property in Emerald to the Sunshine Coast and have purchased a smaller, more manageable farm,” Mr Dunne said.

“This property offers the farmer the opportunity to downsize without having to live in suburbia or is the ideal location for a hobby farmer. It is very fertile soil.

“The possibilities are endless as it could also be used for a lifestyle block or eco-tourism purposes as the demand for travelers grows.”
