TULLOGHER-ROSBERCON

Late Bishop Freeman

The recent death of the retired Bishop of Ossory, Dr Seamus Freeman, was heard of with deep regret in the parish. It was he who re-dedicated the Church of the Assumption in Rosbercon some years after the extensive repairs. A most likeable man he was endeared by all to whom he came into contact with.

A native of Callan and a member of the Pallotine Order, he was plagued by ill-health in recent years which eventually led him to retire from his role. May his gentle soul rest in peace. The Diocese of Ossory now have no Bishop of their own, instead Bishop Nulty of Kildare and Leighlin is acting as Administrator.

Great Win

The Tullogher/Rosbercon junior hurlers continued on their winning ways last Saturday in the JJ Kavanagh and Sons, Kilkenny League/Championship competition. Making the long journey to Windgap to face the local team who were clear leaders at the top of the group was no easy assignment, but they came away with a convincing victory. At the final whistle they had secured the league points on a score of 2-26 to 2-16, of which 1-10 was scored by the brilliant Conor Hennessy.

Fr Dan’s Message

The Covid Pandemic and the closure of churches for public worship in March 2020, removed the practice of regular church going and broke the cycle of weekly Mass attendance.

Even before Covid, church attendance had ceased for many or more likely being reduced to special occasions such as, weddings, baptisms, funerals and anniversaries, and the great feasts of Christmas and Easter.

Now, a mere handful attend the weekend Masses and it is hard to see how this can be reversed in these modern times but the Church has seen many such fall offs down the centuries only to come back again.

Newly Baptist

We welcome into our Parish Community, Caoimhe Mary Barron, daughter of Kieran and Marie Therese from Curraghlane, Tullogher. She was baptized at St Aidan’s Church on Sunday August 21st.

Indian Summer

With all the fine weather we are experiencing at present, the good news is that the forecasters are predicting more of the same for the month of September. But it is not all good news with the farmers crying out for rain with streams and wells running dry and stocks of winter silage now being fed to livestock. In recent years, September and the late Indian Summer tends to shorten the long dreamy winter evenings. Lets hope them weather men have got it right.
