Best Cidery

“Ploughman makes their ciders from apples grown in Adams County, Pennsylvania (Three Springs Fruit Farm, to be exact). The company makes and releases ciders according to seasonal conditions, so the lineup is always changing.”

Vore For Plowman Cider

“Threadbare Cider and Mead, inspired by the story of Johnny Appleseed, makes farmhouse, bottle-conditioned, wild-fermented, hopped and barrel-aged ciders. Try house and experimental ciders by the glass at their Pittsburgh cider house.”

“It’s safe to say that Grand Illusion is the only cidery on our list that also offers guests an escape room experience. But that’s not what makes them worthy of a nomination for Best Cidery. Grand Illusion doesn’t just offer a significant selection of their own ciders on tap, but they boast the largest selection of Pennsylvania cider on draft anywhere in the world.”

“Philadelphia’s Attic Brewing Company opened in January 2020 and is passionate about supporting the historic Germantown neighborhood they call home. The brewery always offers 14 beers on tap, and their selection includes IPAs, Belgian, barrel-aged, stouts, and more. One of their most popular initiatives, the Give Back Beer Series, provides opportunities to collaborate with local non-profits by donating a portion of profits from all sales of the current Give Back Beer on Tap”

“Opened in 2020, Human Robot offers both classic-style beers as well as beers brewed with newer, experimental techniques. Visitors can find a number of Human Robot’s brews on tap, as well as ciders, wines and canned cocktails. Hungry? Pair your beer with some great eats from Poe’s Sandwich Joint.”

“Visitors in Hershey can choose between three tour options at Tröegs Independent Brewing, a free self-guided tour through the heart of the brewery, a guided production tour or a Splinter Tour exploring the brewery’s barrel-aging program. The popular production tour includes a behind-the-scenes look at the wood-aging cellar, mill room, hop cooler, brewhouse, fermentation cellar and packaging line. A welcome beer is included.”

“A tour of Yards gives beer lovers an inside look at how one of Philadelphia’s most popular beers is made. These humorous (and entirely wheelchair accessible) tours take guests through the production facilities, with tastings along the way and last about 40 minutes.”

Pennsylvania’s Ever Grain Brewing Co. has been turning heads with its Moire Eel. The can, designed by Adam Ross, features an eel hidden within a moire pattern reminiscent of the 1990s Magic Eye trend. Moire Eel, a hazy double IPA, offers citrus, peach and mango flavors and is supported by a blend of hops sourced from New Zealand’s Freestyle Hops.”

Iron Hill – Sweet Leaf IPA

“Iron Hill Brewery’s Sweet Leaf IPA is a “far out festival of hops” with juicy grapefruit, resinous pine, and fresh tropical flavors. Iron Hill brews Sweet Leaf with whole leaf hops, while the can pays homage to the 70s with groovy artwork. Elevate your experience even further by tuning into “Iron Hill Sweet Leaf Tunes,” a Spotify playlist the brewery created to pair with the beer.”

“The City of Brotherly Love is a hard-drinking town – ask anyone who’s been on South Street during last call – and more and more Philadelphians are focusing their efforts on enjoying the area’s impressive craft brews. Fortunately, there’s no shortage of top-notch beer bars, from the much-lauded Monk’s Cafe to the equally impressive City Tap House. Yards Brewing Company is the city’s most popular craft brewery, and there are several smaller outfits that have popped up in recent years. Perhaps it’s the year-round event calendar that sets Philly’s beer scene apart. Spanning 10 days, Philly Beer Week is the country’s oldest and biggest event of its kind.”

During Pittsburgh’s Barrel & Flow Fest, formerly known as Fresh Fest, some 3,000 craft beer industry professionals and enthusiasts come together for a weekend celebrating Black-owned breweries with collaborations with Black artists and entrepreneurs from throughout Pennsylvania and the country.”
