AutoCamp, The Group Behind Luxury Airstream Camping, Is Revamping A Motel In Moab

With a streamlined Scandinavian meets industrial “ScanDustrial” design and plenty of room for stashing boards, bikes, and bags, Field Station is the hotel outdoor dreams are made of. And, with room rates starting at $159 a night, Field Station is aiming to make the outdoors more accessible – and comfortable – for everyone.

Introduced as “a new outdoor adventure hotel,” Field Station is the latest project from AutoCamp Hospitality Group, the hotel group that made staying in sleek modern Airstreams cool again. AutoCamp has grown to five locations since launching, and the company has four more locations in the works in Zion, Yosemite, Cape Cod, and Asheville for 2023. This new venture into outdoor adventure hotels carries on in the same ethos of providing well-designed accommodations in stunning backcountry locales.

Once open, Field Station’s goal will be to attract outdoor and design lovers who will appreciate the access to nature the hotel provides as well as the touches – such as photography from adventure photographer Cliford Mervil, in-room coolers from Dometic Outdoor, gear rentals from Black Diamond, and custom curated trail guides from AllTrails. Additionally, a handful of rooms will also have Black Diamond portaledges installed so guests can try out sleeping in these hanging beds used by rock climbers – but from the safety of their hotel room.

The hotel will also have a Gear + Beer designated gear rental and food area where guests and guides will have the chance to mix, mingle, and talk shop – not only swapping adventure stories, but also offering expert tips and recommendations from their AllTrails shortlist. Guests are welcome to take on adventures on their own or enlist the help of one of the property’s guides.

Weekly programing at the hotel also hopes to create a community outpost and source of education for both guests and locals in the Moab area. Weekly classes and lectures will cover everything from survivalist skills or the local history of Indigenous Peoples, to on-trail bike tire patching and sustainable stewardship and Leave No Trace (LNT) principles.

“The success of AutoCamp inspired us to create Field Station to make it even easier for everyone to get outside, more often,” said Neil Dipaola, CEO and founder of AutoCamp Hospitality Group.

The hotel isn’t just for weekend warriors and adventure enthusiasts, “Van Life” posts will also be available for guests traveling by car. Meaning, you don’t necessarily have to stay in the hotel to experience everything it has to offer. Travelers exploring Moab by van or other overlanding-ready vehicles will have access to communal areas, Wi-Fi, and electrical hookups, as well as a designated communal bathroom and shower area.

The hotel has a pool, group meeting spaces perfect for launching adventures or hosting product demos, and an espresso bar.

This first Field Station location will open in Moab in early 2023 and additional locations will follow in Joshua Tree and South Lake Tahoe, California.
