Downriver park gets $1.6M investment to boost waterfront, local tourism, recreation – The News Herald

The tourism and outdoor recreation sector in Ecorse just received a $1.6 million boost, and a lot of people are thrilled about it.

The US Department of Commerce invested the money in the form of a grant to the city in an effort to boost the local tourism economy.

As a result, residents and many others who enjoy spending time in John Dingell Park will enjoy a welcomed expansion.

A boat launch on the Detroit River is also part of the expansion plan.

The grant is an effort to expand outdoor recreational opportunities and increase tourism in a region impacted by the declining use of coal. The EDA investment will be matched with $410,400 in local funds.

State leaders acknowledged the importance of the grant and what it means to Ecorse.
